Mitigate LINUX End-of-Life Risk and Cost

RiverMeadow facilitates a broad spectrum of OS Conversion paths between various Linux distributions, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, Oracle Enterprise Linux, Rocky Linux, and AlmaLinux.

  1. Mitigating End-of-Life Risks:

    • With the EOL of CentOS 8 and certain RHEL versions, transitioning to supported OS versions like Rocky Linux or AlmaLinux through RiverMeadow’s OS Conversion mitigates risks, ensuring a secure and compliant operational environment.

  2. Ensuring Continuous Support:

    • Transition before the EOL dates to guarantee continuous support, access to security patches, and system updates, which are crucial for maintaining a resilient infrastructure.

  3. Cost Efficiency in Transition:

    • Transition from commercial Linux distributions like RHEL to open-source or community-supported distributions like CentOS, Rocky Linux, or AlmaLinux, significantly reducing licensing and support costs.

  4. Enhanced Performance and Scalability:

    • Modern Linux OS versions offer improved performance metrics and scalability features catering to the growing demands of global businesses.

  5. Application Compatibility:

    • Transition to modern OS versions to ensure compatibility with the latest applications, services, and integrations available in the Linux ecosystem.

  6. Smooth Cloud Migration:

    • Prepare your workloads for a seamless migration to cloud environments by ensuring they are running on modern, supported OS versions optimized for cloud infrastructures.

  7. Automated Modernization:

    • Employ RiverMeadow’s services to automate the transition process, ensuring a smooth upgrade from older versions like CentOS 6.2 to contemporary versions like Rocky 9.2.

LINUX OS Conversion & OS Modernization

Revitalize your operating system seamlessly with RiverMeadow's OS Conversion capability during your migration journey for designated use cases. This feature operates exclusively on the target clone within the destined cloud environment, ensuring zero interference with the original source. By confining all conversion activities to the target clone, the inherent risks associated with direct OS Conversion on the source machine are substantially minimized.

Verify application compatibility on the isolated target clone with the aid of security groups, network Access Control Lists (ACLs), firewall rules, or secluded network segments, contingent on the specifications of your target cloud. Employ OS Modernization alongside OS Conversion during the migration to simultaneously convert and upgrade your system in one automated stride. Illustratively, transition from CentOS 6.2 to Rocky 9.2, thereby converting from CentOS to Rocky and modernizing from version 6.2 to 9.2.

 Note:

  • OS Conversion is a segment of a comprehensive migration.
  • Differential migrations are supported, shifting to a file-based copy technology during the differential migration to preserve the target OS's integrity.

Disk Space Pre-requisites:

  • A pre-flight examination ensures a minimum of 16GB of free disk space on the source, inclusive of at least 500MB in the /boot for new kernel packages. RiverMeadow endeavors to expand the /boot on the target clone to resolve any space constraints, ensuring a smooth OS Conversion process.
