Cloud computing has experienced tremendous growth within the past few years, and  cloud technology adoption continues to grow at a rapid pace. According to an IDC report, at least half of IT investments will be cloud-based this year. Enterprise cloud spending will represent 16% of the compound annual growth in the next ten years.

Two areas of rapid growth are Cloud Migration Services and Cloud Based Disaster Recovery. Both Services represent massive market opportunities for participants.  According to the latest reports, 50% of companies are using cloud-based DR solutions and the Cloud Migration market is expected to hit approximately $13B by 2025.

Many people believe that disaster recovery tools are the same as cloud migration tools.  This is simply not the case.  Here are some of the differences between these two technologies:

DR Migration
DR is a continuous process that works backstage within the cloud solution Migration is specific to the implementation stage of cloud adoption and is typically a  “project”
DR projects will always typically require full hypervisor access The right Migration tool  does not require hypervisor access
DR is synonymous with agents being installed on all source servers The right Migration tools does not require agents to be installed
In DR RPO (Recovery Point Objective) and RTO (Recovery Time Objective) are important two objectives managed by DR, where speed and sync time are considerations for migration. In Migrations, things like date Migration speed and sync times and cutover windows are considerations
How you pay is usually different: DR requires annual subscription and is more expensive While Migrations are pay per use or project
DR workloads are generic for recoverability (don’t optimize or modify) Migrated workloads are optimized for the target cloud
DR higher level of expertise required Migrations low levels of expertise required
DR typically is not “officially” supported as a Migration use case Officially supported

RiverMeadow is a Cloud Migration Service provider that offers Services and Software to solve the problem of Migrating existing application to the cloud in mass and at scale.

Cloud Migration Tool Overview

RiverMeadow SaaS can migrate existing workloads from Physical, Virtual or Cloud to Cloud

RiverMeadow SaaS with Secure Direct Migration (SDM) is an automated agnostic migration tool that can connect to any Source (physical, virtual or cloud) to any supported Target Cloud environment (public, private, and hybrid) quickly and securely without disrupting the Source in the process.

Key Points:

  • Migration between physical, virtual and any cloud platform to multiple target cloud platform
  • Hardware independent between server and storage hardware
  • Hypervisor independent between different virtual and cloud platforms
  • Automatically provisions new virtual machines on cloud targets - no manual configuration required
  • Post migration automation
  • Cutover (Source Shutdown) Capability
  • Data Only Migration
